I recently discovered the Junior Explorers SB and really like how they have put it together. It has not only the subscription box that arrives each 
month with hands-on activities it also has a sizeable online component as well. Another aspect that put this in my top ten is that it give the children a mission each month they must solve getting them involved in the process, not just observing.
Each month the SB arrives with information, collectables, games, and hands-on activities to help the children prepare and build excitement for solving the mission online relating to that month’s ecosystem and featured animal. 
Characters Kai and Kyle guide then through the box and online mission. The first month’s box is on Biomes as an introduction to the world without political boundaries. Other missions include the Arctic, Everglades, Amazon, Yellowstone, Serengeti, Virunga, and the Great Barrier Reef.
Junior Explorers is cross curricular and falls into the category of science and social studies for young learners. Age suggestion are for grades 1 – 4, but it could be adapted for use with younger and older and also with multi-age siblings. Supervision would be needed for proper sharing and participating in solving the mission. This could also easily be expanded and used as a base curriculum and Junior Explorers has already done most of the work 
for you. On their website in an educators’ section with complete lesson plans, recommended books, websites, and videos for each mission available for free. Most missions offer ten or more lessons including activities that use the materials provided in the monthly box and online mission. I can’t emphasize enough how awesome this feature is.
